How to Install openSUSE Leap 15 on a Computer using a USB Stick

This article shows you how to set up openSUSE Leap version 15 (15.4) on a physical PC with a bootable USB flash drive.

Germany started the openSUSE Linux distribution project, a community-only operating system.

The openSUSE distribution has two versions Leap and Tumbleweed. The Tumbleweed version is a rolling release and always gets updates. The Leap version, on the other hand, gets an upgrade only when the distribution version is refreshed.

You can run openSUSE distribution on a physical computer and gain experience. You must download the Rufus application and burn it to the flash disk to download the ISO file and create the USB installation media.

Follow this video tutorial or the steps below to build your computer’s openSUSE Leap 15 distribution.

Step 1: To download the SUSE ISO file, visit https://www.opensuse.org/ and click the Install button in the Leap section.

Step 2: To download the Rufus program, visit https://rufus.ie/ and download the Portable version.

Step 3: Plug an empty USB flash drive into your PC and open the Rufus program. Then click SELECT and add the ISO file and complete the burning process.

Step 4: Boot your computer with a USB stick, press Enter on the Installation option in the boot menu, and wait for the Kernel to load.

Step 5: Select your system language and keyboard type when the installation wizard starts. Next, accept openSUSE’s license agreement.

Step 6: Confirm adding the Online Repository addresses and choose your desktop environment in the next step.

Step 7: If you do a clean install on the disk configuration screen, click Next. If you are going to do manual disk planning, click the Expert button and open the settings.
