How to Install Windows Programs on Ubuntu 18.10 using Wine 3.20 Devel

This video shows you the steps to install the Wine 3.20 Devel program developed by WineHQ, which allows you to install and run Windows programs and games on Ubuntu 18.10 (Cosmic Cuttlefish).

To install Wine on Ubuntu 18.10:

Step 1: If you have not installed Ubuntu before, please refer to the Ubuntu 18.10 Installation videos with VMware from the links below.

Step 2: After installing Ubuntu 18.10, if you want to install Windows programs on Linux, you need to install Wine.

Step 3: By installing Wine on Ubuntu, you can run and use many Windows-based applications and games.

Step 4: Setting up Wine on Ubuntu is pretty simple and easy.

Step 5: To install Wine on Ubuntu 18.10, open Terminal and execute the following commands respectively.

1) sudo dpkg –add-architecture i386
2) wget -nc
3) sudo apt-key add Release.key
4) sudo apt-add-repository ‘deb bionic main’
5) sudo apt-get update
6) sudo apt-get install –install-recommends winehq-devel

Step 6: After installing Wine on Ubuntu 18.10, you can check the version of the program by using the “wine –version” command in Terminal.

wine –version

Step 7: You can run the “winecfg” command in Terminal to run Wine.


Step 8: After installing Wine for Ubuntu 18.10, you can now install a Windows program!

Step 9: After installing Wine to run Windows programs on Linux, download Notepad ++ as an example and right click on the file.

Step 10: Click “Open With Other Application” in the drop-down menu.

Step 11: Select “Wine Windows Program Loader” in the Select Application window and click the Select button.

Step 12: Install Notepad on Ubuntu.
