How to Reconfigure Root Password in Linux/Ubuntu
To change the forgotten Root pword:
Step 1: If you have not installed Ubuntu before, please refer to the video below.
Step 2: Restart your Ubuntu system.
Step 3: Press and hold the Shift key to open the GRUB menu.
Step 4: After opening the GRUB menu, press Enter in Advanced options for Ubuntu.
Step 5: In the next window, press Enter on the Recovery Mode option.
Step 6: After opening the Recovery Mode, press Enter on the root option.
Step 7: At the command prompt, execute mount -o rw, remount / command.
➦ mount -o rw, remount /
Step 8: Specify the user name to which you want to change the root pword and execute passwd (user name) on the console.
➦ passwd (Username)
Step 9: Type your new password and finally restart your PC by executing sudo reboot command.
➦ sudo reboot
