How to Install GNS3 2.2.18 on Windows 10

The most common program used to prepare for Cisco exams is GNS3. With GNS3, you can create more professional network designs as it allows you to use IOS images of real Cisco Router or Switch devices.

One of the most popular programs used to prepare for Cisco exams is GNS3 simulator software. Using this software, you can use IOS images of network devices such as real Cisco Router and Switch and create more professional network designs.

The GNS3 software is compatible with Microsoft Windows systems and also offers users more specific features with its latest versions. One of the highlights of these features is WebClient. This way, you can view a network project you have created on the web browser such as the default Google Chrome on your system.

To Install GNS3 2.2 on Windows 10:

Step 1: First, download GNS3 for your Windows system by visiting the link below.

Step 2: After downloading the new version of GNS3 to your computer, run the setup file as an administrator to start the installation.

Step 3: Click the Next button in the Welcome to GNS3 Setup window, and then click Next after reading the license agreement terms.

Step 4: In the Select Start Menu Folder window, use the default location and in the Select Components window, check the new feature, WebClient, and click Next.

Step 5: In the Choose Install Location window, select the location where you want to install the program and click Next.

Step 6: Wait while the Cisco simulator program is being installed on your system. At this stage, WinPcap, Wireshark, VirtViewer, and Npcap will be installed on your system.

Step 7: After the installation is completed, run GNS3 and configure the Localhost settings in the first window you encounter. Here, if you have other software installed on your system and using localhost, configure the localhost address or port.

Step 8: After checking that the localhost service is running smoothly, create a new project.

Step 9: To add a new Cisco Router IOS, click Preferences from the File menu and click the New button with the “IOS routers” option under Dynamips selected in that window.

Step 10: Click Browse to select the IOS image you downloaded and select the relevant image and add it. Next, decompress the IOS image.

Step 11: Do not change the default value in the platform window and then configure the RAM value based on your computer’s hardware performance.

Step 12: In the Network Adapters window, add the network cards you want to use on the Router. Finally, set the Idle-PC value to ensure that the IOS image does not use 100% of your processor.

Step 13: After setting the Idle-PC value, you can now close the window. Now, drag and drop the Router you added from the Devices section to the workspace and make a design according to your request and test whether it works.
