This article shows you the steps to install Windows 10 on a new virtual machine using VMware Fusion 12 Pro on the macOS operating system on a Mac.
You can install dual boot or a virtual machine using the Windows 10 operating system alongside your macOS system.
On Mac computers, the Boot Camp program is built-in for free. However, when you install a Windows system with Boot Camp, you must restart your computer when you want to switch to the system.
When you choose to use the Windows 10 system in the virtual machine on your Apple computer, you can access it quickly and integrate your favorite applications into your system.
After creating a new virtual machine on your system with the VMware Fusion software, you can install the Windows 10 system by watching this video tutorial or following the steps below.
Step 1: After opening VMware Fusion Pro, select Create a custom virtual machine in the setup options and click Continue.
Step 2: In the operating system selection window, select Windows 10 x64 and click Continue again.
Step 3: In the firmware type selection window, tick the UEFI and Secure Boot options and continue.
Step 4: Create a new virtual disk for a clean Windows installation in the virtual disk selection window.
Step 5: In the window showing the summary information of the virtual machine, click Customize Settings to improve the hardware settings.
Step 6: When the Save As window opens, select where you want to save your virtual computer and continue.
Step 7: When the virtual computer’s settings are opened, click Processors & Memory and add 1 or 2 virtual processors to your virtual system. Assign memory size to your VM according to the RAM capacity of your host computer.
Step 8: Open the Network Adapter hardware settings and change the virtual network adapter type to Ethernet. Ethernet lets you connect your VM to your host’s local network. Also, click Advanced Options in the same window and enable the IOMMU feature.
Step 9: Finally, click on the CD/DVD (SATA) device and add the Windows 10 ISO file you downloaded to your Mac to the virtual machine.
Step 10: Close the settings of the Windows virtual machine and run your guest machine in the Fusion program and start the installation.
Step 11: After installing Windows 10, click Virtual Machine / Install VMware Tools in the tool menu of the virtualization program.
Step 12: Install VMware Tools and restart your virtual system.
Step 13: After installing VMware Tools, you can fit the screen resolution of the Windows 10 guest machine to the entire screen and transfer files between the host and the VM.
